Is Vivitrol more effective than methadone for high risk female offenders put on probation?

Proposal Topic: Is Vivitrol more effective than methadone for high risk female offenders put on probation?
Statement of the Problem

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), from 1999 to 2017, more than 700,000 people have died from drug overdoses and approximately 70,200 of the overdose deaths in 2017 involved an opioid.

The CDC indicates that the number of overdose deaths involving opioids in 2017 was six times higher than in 1999. On average, a staggering 130 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018).

You would think statistics such as these would be enough to discourage drug use in the United States, but drug dependency is an extremely real and difficult habit to escape from.

Actor and former heroin addict and alcoholic, Russell Brand, who has now been clean for several years, describes the struggles of heroin addiction as; “The mentality and behavior of drug addicts and alcoholics is wholly irrational until you understand that they are completely powerless over their addiction and unless they have structured help, they have no hope.”
