Introduction to International Relations: Contemporary Global Issues
Choose one of the following questions and answer it in proper essay format
following the specifications outlined below. Each question is designed to test the student’s capability to tie a real–world event to the theories and concepts introduced in class.
1. What policy advice would you give to President Biden with respect to the Iranian and North Korean nuclear programs? Make sure to base your advice in theory and support it with evidence.
2. What policy tools are most likely to reduce the chances of war in the Asia–Pacific? Your response should utilize both theory and evidence. It may be helpful to consider different kinds of wars as well as different types of policy tools.
3. Some scholars of international relations argue that the post–war liberal international order is undergoing radical and fundamental change. Do you agree? Are there lessons to be learned from previous shifts in the international order that could illuminate the drivers of current systemic changes?
4. Does international law influence the behavior of states? Discuss this question with
reference to at least one issue area (i.e trade, human rights, war, the environment etc).
