Research Project – Notre Dame, Paris
Many of the Gothic cathedrals were dedicated to the Virgin Mary – hence, many cathedrals and churches are called “Notre Dame” which means “Our Lady.” The huge Gothic cathedral in Paris -however, is simply known as “Notre Dame.”
In the centuries following the Medieval period, Notre Dame barely survived the French Revolution as it was seen as a symbol of the king’s power. In the late 1800’s, Victor Hugo celebrated the building in his novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
For this Research Project you will be writing about was is happening with the reconstruction of Notre Dame in Paris since it burned in the spring of 2019.
