    • Learn how to find relevant papers/articles.
    • Understand other’s papers with your prior knowledge.
    • Link your domain knowledge.

 

  1. Detailed descriptions
    • Length: Maximum of two pages
    • Font 12, single space, Times New Roman,
    • Choose one paper which uses one of the optimizations/linear programing/SVD/Bayes rule/regression in your field.
    • Summarize the papers: please use their overview figure, if possible, and summarize their methods and/or applications (maximum half page for each). (max ½ page)
    • What method they used and show the relation between their method and the topics we learn. (max ½ page)
    • Write your research proposal: based on the method in the paper and mathematical tool we learned, you will apply this to a specific topic, and write why this topic is a good example to apply their methods. (max 1 page)

    • Introduction (3 parts)
      1. (10 points) A summary of the topic in the paper.
      2. (10 points) What is the goal of the paper?
  • (10 points) What are the input and the output?
  • Methodology (3 parts)
    1. (10 points) Which method did they use to get the successful output?
    2. (10 points) Which topics we learned in class is highly related to this method?
  • (10 points) Based on their results, what can you infer/explain their result with our knowledge in class?
  • Application (3 parts)
    1. (10 points) What topic is the specific topic you are interested in in your domain/field?
    2. (10 points) How to use this method to get some successful output in your specific topic?
  • (10 points) Why this specific topic is a good example to apply their methods?
