Write a detailed discussion on the current events pieces that you select to support your ideas about the topic you chose.

You have studied a number of key theories in sociology over the course of the semester. Each of the theories/perspectives has offered you a “lens” for viewing human behavior in society and serve as tools for helping us understand why people do the things they do. You have also had the opportunity to read and write about criticism of the theories. You have had a chance to reflect on the theories by viewing films and documentaries that allowed you the opportunity to apply the concepts that were presented through readings and the other resources provided to promote your understanding.

For your final project you will be writing a 10-12 page paper (reference page does not count) focusing on 3 of the theories we covered this semester and 4 pieces of current events materials. Maybe you will use newsclips, newspaper articles, podcasts,Racism and discrimination in our current times

Mental illness and suicide

Mass shootings and gun control legislation

Response to COVID-19

Transformation of Education: Hybrid courses, online courses and use of applications.

Your goal is to demonstrate that you have a real grasp of the theories you chose and are able to use them to explain what is occurring in our current environment. To do this effectively, you may want to review the theories we studied. It might also be helpful for you to review the comments I left for you on your reading summaries. All of your previous work in the course has been building towards this project.

Your focus will be to identify, interpret and evaluate key concepts and principles of three theories that you choose. You will then write a detailed discussion on the current events pieces that you select to support your ideas about the topic you chose. The idea is to use theories to better understand the topic you chose.
