The final product should contain a clear, argumentative thesis. All textual evidence must be in the form of quotes and paraphrased statements with corresponding parenthetical citations.  By using these two elements (thesis and evidence) effectively, the end result will be a sophisticated evaluation of the text.

Purpose and Genre

This assignment is to analyze a single text.  Evidence should reflect the entire text.  Keep in mind the importance of demonstrating a clear connection between your evidence and your thesis.

 

Audience

Your audience for this paper is the teacher. Essays should be written in Standard American English.  Also, because your teacher has read the novel, you should not unnecessarily summarize the text.

Employ MLA format throughout this essay.

 

Stance
