What are your active reading strategies?

English 1 Web students,

For this (your very first) “Reading as a Writer” Response, I would like to invite you to analyze your active reading strategies.

For this response, answer the following questions that will guide the development of your first response:

What is your first experience with books and reading? Tell me a short story about your own reading.

What are your active reading strategies (you may refer to my PowerPoint lecture)? List and describe how you use them in your courses to help you be more successful and engaged in the course.

Why are these reading strategies important to you as a student?

How do these reading strategies connect to your writing?

In what specific ways, do you feel that reading well (engaging with the text/ following and understanding what you read/ interpreting the main ideas and supporting details/ questioning the ideas that are presented in the text/ responding and connecting to the text) will help you become more successful in this course?

What “habits of mind” would be beneficial in developing your writing and active reading?
