Has there been a shift in perceptions about Wikipedia and the validity of the information found there?

The required textbook for this course in past semesters was Rogers’s Doffusion of Innovations. Although diffusion theory will be a central component of the course, I have chose. The Wikipedia article on the subject for you to read rather than the original work of the diffusion research pioneer. What’s up with that? Amid an idiot? Had no one told me that the vast majority of reference librarians strongly caution against using Wikipedia as a reliable source of information?
