Aims

This module will enable the student district nurse to apply theory to practice and to integrate evidence into their prescribing activity.

Students will be encouraged to explore and apply personal, ethical, empirical, aesthetic and socio-political aspects to their practice and maintain a person-centered approach to prescribing.
Knowledge and Understanding:

• Critically appraise research relating to prescribing practice

• Appraise and critically evaluate the strategies for disseminating and applying research findings inprescribing practice Intellectual Skills:

Critically evaluate the impact that research approaches and methodologies have on nurse prescribing practice.

• Critically appraise research articles, papers and publications and apply the findings in prescribing practice.

• Critically evaluate health care experiences and prescribing decisions in relation to ethical, personal, aesthetic, socio-political and empirical knowledge.
Practical Skills: •

Select and use up-to-date evidence and research to inform their prescribing practice

• Adopt a person-centred approach to prescribing practice Transferable Skills:

• Use information, computer technology (ICT) to search, select and manage literature and research to inform practice and prescribing
• Critically evaluate the use of evidence-based approaches to prescribing practice when managing person-centred care

Attainment of the award will enable the student to gain employment as a district nurse to lead a district nursing team and service provision.
