Choosing a topic and researching your persuasive speech.

You should choose and submit your Persuasive Speech Topic and begin researching this week. The assignment is to create a product and a business proposal as if you were planning to pitch your idea to the entrepreneurs on the TV show, Shark Tank. Your researched speech will address how to solve a problem or fulfill a need (environmental, social, political, etc.).

The best persuasive speakers are the ones who have researched and studied both sides. You will be required to use Monroe’s Motivated Sequence, so find a topic that is about finding a solution to a problem or a fulfillment of a need.

Find a minimum of four (4) varied and credible sources addressing your chosen issue. Be sure to find strong supporting evidence for each of your main points: first, to convince the audience of the seriousness and nature of the problem; second to provide detailed, concrete ways to solve the problem; and third, to help your audience visualize a better society or world if the problem were to be solved.

All sources must be cited in the body of your long-form outline (using APA style) and also reflected in the Works Cited page.

• For your speech (6mns long), you must use computer-developed visual aids such as PowerPoint.

• Off-limits topics for this course: speeches pro or con abortion or on trying to persuade someone to adopt your religious or political beliefs.

Persuasive Speech presentation with visual aids, short-form speaking outline, revised long-form outline, and bibliography. Power point or other graphics program is required for visual aid production. You will turn in:

1. long-form (preparation) outline with sources cited in text,

2. works cited bibliography in APA style, and

3. Power Point presentation.
