Course Project: Students will work in pairs or threes (or individually if you choose) for your project. The project will choose a child or adolescent case vignette from any of the following movies or TV shows:

Project Details

The group will write an 8-10 page paper outlining the chosen case, selected intervention and course of treatment. In your small groups choose an intervention of interest covered in class. Your dyad or triad will read journal articles, manuals, and any other supporting materials, as well as view any available video demonstrations to gain an in-depth understanding of that intervention and therapeutic approach with children and adolescents.

The paper should be organized in the following manner:

  1. Case Formulation
  2. Demographic information about the client.
  3. Type of Assessment
    c. Relevant social and family history including current or past family stressors (e.g. who lives with child, changes in home environment, support systems, psychiatric histories, etc.).
    d. Developmental, medical and physical health information.
    e. Presenting issues; problematic behaviors or concerns; onset, duration and known triggers.
    f. Consideration of appropriate diagnosis or categorization of clients’ problem/situation; consider cultural and developmental factors in the symptom presentation and diagnosis.
  4. Conceptualization of presenting problem or disorder, using theory and research

to write literature review on disorder.

  1. Treatment Plan
  2. Identify and outline treatment goals for client and family
    b. Include information about who will be included in treatment (family members,

school personnel, etc.)

III. Treatment Intervention

  1.   Describe and explain the intervention to be used and any strategies from

theoretical orientation and/or research embedded in that intervention.

  1. Discuss any cultural or developmental considerations.
  2. Support treatment w/efficacy research.
