First assume you are handling a consulting project about intergroup conflict. Competing goals and objectives probably contributed to the counterproductive situation. Your client has probably provided an idea of the general scope of the project.
Using (and citing) the assigned readings as a guide, outline the steps you would take to align inter-group intervention goals with the needs of your client. Be sure to identify the source of competing goals as well as the desired outcome of your client. You may bring in additional (scholarly) resources to support your recommendations. Be sure to cite them properly.
Approach this question from the perspective of creating your interview scripts for meetings with your client. You both know there is intergroup conflict. Initially, you both know little or nothing about the nature of the conflict.
Your goal for these meetings is to find out what the client wants from the groups in conflict that he/she is not getting now. Your diagnostics and subsequent intervention(s) will be focused on closing the gap between the current conflict-burdened situation and the client’s desired end state.
