Opinion on Euthanasia

In your opinion, is euthanasia or physician-assisted suicide ever morally permissible? Are there some situations in which one might be acceptable but not the other? Explain your answers in detail, and give examples of both their strengths and weaknesses (how can you defend your viewpoint, and what are some arguments that can be posed against your opinion)?

This is a philosophy class and all statements must be supported by “good reasoning.” Try not to use fallacies in this or in your response to other essays and rules of courtesy always apply. A fallacy includes a resort to authority. For example, you may be tempted to answer that your code of ethics comes from the Bible or from the law. No problem, but that only gives us the source, not the specific code. Instead, you could say that you follow the concept of compassion and caring for others. Now tell us why this is a good ethic to follow. We do not need to know the source, because that is not what is being discussed. The source could be your parent or your best friend or a law, but just because it comes from these sources does not explain why it is right. We want the explanation.
