Working with Parents

The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to think about the relationship between preschool teachers, children and families. As noted in the announcement I expect that if you give this some thought you will be able to answer some if not all of these questions without necessarily referencing the postings in the associated Module

1. Communication

In this time of the communication revolution there are many ways of communicating with parents.

Communication can occur directly in the classroom and less directly.
It can be verbal, though texts and images and even in the way we set up the classroom environment.

a. Describe three ways you could use to communication information to parent and indicate why you might choose to use each.

b. How might you establish and maintain communication that is reciprocal that could support having a positive relationship with parent and families?

2. Parent Involvement and engagement.

a. Describe three ways that families can be involved and contribute to preschool programs-what does family engagement look like?

b. What are the challenges associated with involving parents/ Do you have any ideas on how these challenges can be met?

3. Benefits
a. As we think about working with families in preschool programs the one question we should be asking is……how do children in our care benefit from family involvement?.

b. Another question is ……how do teachers benefit?
