Read here for a reminder on what constitutes an academic paragraph: An academic paragraph begins with a topic sentence that presents the topic/subject of the paragraph. The remainder of the sentences in the paragraph must stay “on topic” with the topic sentence. You should present explanation of the idea presented in the topic sentence.

One way to do this is to present evidence (quotes/paraphrases/summaries) to support your topic sentence. You should always introduce the evidence, present it, and fully explain the evidence.

You can finish your paragraph with a summary sentence tying all of the ideas together. The academic paragraph should be 5-8 sentences long.
