How is the term “Anglo-conformity” defined?

Does it involve race, class, ethnicity or religion?

And how does it relate to the new wave of immigrants entering America during this period (1880-1924)?

This week’s reading examines the wave of new immigrants coming into America between 1880 and 1924.  It would appear that the goals of this new wave of immigrants “contradicted the prevailing Protestant ethos.”

Below is a link to an article entitled: “US Immigrants and the Dilemma of Anglo-conformity.”  It argues that although paradigms of assimilation, acculturation, Anglo-conformity, cultural pluralism, and the melting pot all are evident, historically the overriding force in the cultural reality of the United States is Anglo-conformity.

Question # 1. Your response should be at least two or three paragraphs. Your response will be graded on the basis of content (how well you respond to the question) and on the quality of your response (grammar, spelling, syntax, etc.)

Question # 2. Discussion Topic – “What does it mean to be an American now, today?”
