Assignment Outline


ScoffWell Foods Ltd are a local business who distribute prepackaged meals
to supermarkets and other outlets. They wish to extend their
manufacturing and processing operation and have identified a potential location for this proposed facility within their current site on the outskirts of Aberdeen.

An initial feasibility has been undertaken and an outline budget of £1.75m
has been agreed.

They are now looking to appoint a design team with Building Information
Modelling (BIM) experience and have invited appropriate organisations to
submit proposals outlining their suitability and capability to take the project
forward to construction stage.


Your company, RGU Services, is a multidiscipline organisation which prides itself on being able to offer a full range of management and design services, covering all the requirements for the modernday construction industry.


Task


Prepare a capability statement to be forwarded to ScoffWell Foods Ltd. in
which you include the following:


1. The roles which will be required for such a project and the services each would provide to ensure the project is delivered safely and to their satisfaction, on budget and on time.

2. An overview of your organisation’s approach to teamworking and communication.

3. An evaluation of the suitability of adopting BIM for a construction project such as this.

Buildsom Construction Ltd have been awarded the contract from Scoffwell Foods Ltd for the erection of a stand alone single storey steel framed building which will accommodate their food processing plant. The frame will be timber clad externally and have nonloadbearing internal partitions.

The contract will include for all associated infrastructure including landscaping.
ScoffWell have stressed the importance of cost and time as any delays to the completion of the contract will result in an additional cost to them of £2,500/ week.

Part B

ScoffWell have announced that they have recently secured a large order from a Client who operates throughout the UK and this will significantly increase their business.

They are now looking to build a further four separate food processing plants in different parts of the UK over the next 14 months, however they are looking for a quicker turnaround and greater sustainability credits.

Prepare a report for ScoffWell in which you outline what developments have taken place as regards modern construction methods and where these can potentially be implemented, giving examples of where time can be saved and how your proposals can impact on the project’s sustainability credentials.
