Read Instructions below:

Choose one movie or book that features children or adolescents (ages 6-21). For this assignment, students should relate course content (from the textbook and from PowerPoint Notes) to the children or adolescent in the video/book.

Keep in mind that in order to receive a good grade on this assignment, links to course content are required. Clearly delineate your own thoughts about the movie/book compared to what the text/PowerPoint notes said. Be very explicit about terms used from the textbook/PowerPoint notes so that it is clear you understand the material.

Good Example: In the movie, Julie appeared to be identity diffused. Identity diffusion occurs when a person has not had an identity crisis and they have not committed to a specific identity.

Bad Example:  In the movie, Julie appeared to be identity diffused.
In the examples above, you can see that the good example specifically defines what ‘Identity Diffused’ means as discussed in the text. However, in the bad example, additional information regarding identify diffusion is not provided.

Students should not assume that a link will double count in two of these areas. For example, although Erikson could be discussed as a theorist, his work could also be discussed as a developmental issue (as Erikson theorized about identity).  In this case, you would need to either pick an additional theorist or an additional developmental issue to receive full credit.

Additionally, if you describe two aspects of one issue/theory, this would only count as one link. For example, you should not describe two stages within one theorist and expect that the requirement for theorists is met. There must be 8 unique links to course content.

Preapproved movies (others are allowed with approval):

Breakfast Club
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Pretty in Pink
10 Things I Hate About You
