How do the “Professional Dispositions” help you to make a positive first impression?

Hi Everyone,
It is imperative to make a good first impression with your mentor, students, and school campus for many reasons. As future professionals, we must hold ourselves to the highest standard to earn the respect and trust of those around us. First impressions are usually made within the first 12 seconds of someone recognizing us (Little et al., 2011). Often, it is before we even speak to that person that first impressions are made based on our appearance, body language, and facial expression. We should be proud to represent ourselves and the knowledge we have built through our education and we can do that by maintaining a clean appearance and welcoming body language and friendly facial expressions. The Professional Dispositions help make a positive impact by explaining that we need to demonstrate professional friendliness, warmth, and genuine, caring relationships with students and staff members (Grand Canyon University, n.d.). The Dispositions also outline that educators should have high expectations, including with ourselves, and professional conduct.

TOPIC 3 DQ1
Hello,
some advantage of making a good impression are trust, competence, and positive relationships. When student teachers make a good impression it speak value to the cooperating teacher, students and the school that the student teacher is about getting the work needed done. Building trust and relationships is a way to make good impression and it shows the cooperating teacher and students that the student teacher is there not just for school but to help and assist as well. Being on time for class and communicating with the cooperating teacher and the students will also make a good impression as well. Cooperating teachers needs to know when changes are happening as well as students. When student teachers show this form of respect, then the cooperating teacher can trust that the student teacher will be there for the students and help out within the class when needed. Student teaching takes up cooperating teachers time as well and that is something that needs to be considered and when student teachers show respect this way, it makes a good impression.

Hello Class and Professor,
When it comes to making a good impression with your mentor teacher, it’s important to be punctual and professional because it shows that you are ready to work and collaborate with your mentor teacher. Thankfully for me, I had the opportunity to work with Mrs. Peck several years ago in being a para with helping her classes out. So I know the expectations and importance of being professional and help her with anything that she needs to ensure that her students are learning. When it comes to the students, making a good impression is showing them that you are there for them and wanting to build a connection with them. It’s about getting to know them and interacting with them every day. With the school campus, it’s about getting to know the building and figuring out the layout of how everything works and runs throughout the day. It shows the staff that you are being proactive in learning how everything works on a daily basis when school starts each day. The “Professional Dispositions” helps me make a first impression by ensuring that I value and understand what is expected of me in working with students, teachers, school staff, and my community. It’s about making an impact with everyone I work with in the process. Right now with student teaching with Mrs. Peck, I’m doing my best to connect with the students in each period and let them know that I am here for them. Learning about the students and getting to know them, with handling classroom management for her classes. I’m interacting with other teachers in the building and talking to administrators. Being proactive in learning about this school’s community.
