Name something you saw in the “Lego Movie” clip that you feel demonstrates hegemony, and explain how it does so.

Hegemony
“The most potent effect of mass media is how they subtly influence their audiences to perceive social roles and routine personal activities.” (Lull)

“To the extent that those in the target group internalize the images that the dominant group reflects back to them, they may find it difficult to believe in their own ability.” (Tatum)

This is a TWO PART DISCUSSION:
Part 1. Name something you saw in the “Lego Movie” clip that you feel demonstrates hegemony, and explain how it does so. This can be a lyric from the song, or, something you saw in the video,3`1 Cetc. M e._” dip 5cis ‘,./

Part 2. Provide a/specific example of media influencing your perception of social roles. Social roles can be based on a number of things: gender, age, occupation, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and so on.

So, think of patterns you have seen with portrayals of a certain social group, and how those patterns can potentially create assumptions or expectations about that group. And, to address Tatum’s point, how might that media content make those in the “target group” feel about themselves?

In your response, provide a specific media example (a specific program, film, game, etc.) and explain how it applies to the prompt. You also need to quote or paraphrase at least one of the articles in your response. AL.tie5 Ls2-1
