I can say that what I have learned in this course has improved my understanding of the function of a literature in applied research. There was much uncertainty, on my part, as it pertained to how to develop, organize, and relate the amount of information that was acquired while reviewing literature. There were moments when I could not find consistent resources to support my chosen topic, which is considered a gap in the literature. Another practical definition for this is when there is a problem or an issue that has not been properly explained or managed in the literature. I feel that the vacuum in the literature makes a study viable and draws attention to a problem that needs to be addressed. As the researcher delves in and assesses the issues being investigated, as well as and the technique and demographics, the gaps in the literature grow increasingly evident.During the early stage of this course, I struggled with constructing my research topic. My original subject matter was not considered applied research; therefore, I had to regroup and find a different focus area. Choosing the right topic depended on if it would add any substance to the body of existing knowledge. One of the major aims of any sort of study should be that the findings provide a fresh and unique strategy as a solution to a practical problem. Habakkuk 2:2 says, “And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” The more time you spend gathering relevant material for your topic, the less time you will spend attempting to make your research cohesive and clear. Claxton and Michael (2020) stated that a formal literature review is intended to increase the author’s understanding of a practice problem or specific topic, to provide the author with a justification, or argument, for conducting research, and to provide the researcher with enough information to make an informed decision about recommendations to improve educational practices. If your intent is to solve a problem in your area of study then significant amounts of literature will need to be researched and considered. The use of literature to address a problem offers us a direction based on previous works and the data already collected. Using literature to solve educational problems can be an arduous task because all stakeholders must be considered when presenting the solution. Whatever you do and however you decide to conduct your study it is imperative that you remain prayerful and led by the Holy Spirit.References Claxton, B. L., & Michael, K. Y. (2020).
