Strand 1: Psychoanalytic Theory
Students will be required to write a Psychoanalytic Theory paper of 1800 words with a 10% margin (excluding reference list). The paper will take as its focus one of the key concepts encountered during the course of the year. It should give an account of the student’s understanding of this concept, supported by reference to relevant primary and secondary source texts as studied in the specialist reading seminars.
ESSAY TASK
Select one of the following psychoanalytic topics studied this year:
a) Mourning
or
b) Transference
In your essay, address the following aspects:
1. Introduce the topic in your own words and define the relevant psychoanalytic concepts drawing on the theoretical papers you have studied. (900 words approx.)
2. Illustrate your understanding of the psychoanalytic concepts by explaining their relevance to an example from your observation or work. (900 words approx.)
