Answer one of the following questions. Your work must meet the Learning Outcomes below, and demonstrate close engagement with your chosen literary text. You must not write about the same text again for assignment 2.

Write a critical book review that argues for the contemporary relevance of one literary text studied so far on the course. Your book review should be informed by academic research into your text and topic, and it should be fully referenced. Examples of book reviews are provided in the ‘Assessment Resources’ tab on Moodle.

Learning Outcomes related to the assignment

Analyse and evaluate a variety of writing and literary genres, informed by relevant historical and theoretical contexts.

Knowledge of theoretical and philosophical approaches to nature, the environment, humans, animals, and technology.

The ability to think critically (i.e. rigorously, independently, knowledgeably and confidently) and creatively about the place of writing in environmental debates that are set to remain crucial for years to come.

The ability to write fluently, digest and synthesise large amounts of information, and construct logical, nuanced arguments derived from extensive research.
