What was the progressive movement? Detail two specific causes within the larger movement.

What were the cultural clashes of the 1920s?

Explain the difference between the first and second New Deals.

Compose a full-length essay in response to ONE of the questions below.

Provide as much specific evidence as possible

Explain the conditions of American workers at the end of the nineteenth century. What were working conditions like? What did they identify as their political/economic goals? What did they do to try and achieve these goals? (Hint: Think about both urban and agricultural workers.)

Explain the changes in national government from 1865 to the end of World War I. When did the government grow in size and responsibilities and when did it get smaller?

In what ways did government responsibility/authority change over time? With each growth and contraction, some groups benefitted while others did not.

Be sure to mention specific groups and legislation in your answer. (Hint: your essay should address Reconstruction, the Gilded Age, the Progressive era, World War I, the 1920s, 1930s, and World War II.)
