The Raise the Wage, which phases in a $15 minimum wage ,would raise the earnings of 32 million workers, or 21 % of the workfoce, affected workers include those who would see their wages rise as the new minimum wage rate exceeds their current hourly pay and those who have a wage rate just above the new minimum wage who would receive a raise as employer pay scales are adjusted upward to reflect the new minimum wage .On average , an affected worker who works year round would see an annual pay increase of about $3,300. In total, a $15 minimum wage would provide over $108 billion in additional wages in 2025 to affected workers. Raising the minimum wage would reduce job opportunities for vulnerable groups of workers.

Raising the minimum wage to 15 would help ensure that move low-wage workers are paid enough to cover basic living expenses ,i.e.,a wage providing a modest yet adequate standard of living, for example a single adult without children working full time must earn more than $15 per hour to have enough to pay for housing and other basic living expenses. For individuals with children,year- round work at a $15 wage in 2025 will still be inadequate to achieve basic economic security. Essential and front line workers are a majority of those who would benefit from a $15 minimum wage in 2025. The part of the economy that would be most affected by the increase in the minimum wage would be the smaller businesses, since they would have to pay their workers more and many of these businesses do not have that money, and for the remaining workers it would be more work.

The Raise The Wage Act charts the path foward to where we, as a society, should target a minimum wage in 2025. Raising the federal minimum wage to $ 15 by 2025 would secure a long-overdue improvement in living standards for the lowest-wage workers and will finally help ensure that full time work is a means to escape poverty. The policy would significantly reduce long standing race-and gender- based pay inequities and the inequities between how tipped and nontipped workers are treated. Finally, by automatically linking future increases to median wage growth, it will prevent those with lowest pay from slipping behing.
