Application of low/zero carbon technologies and sustainable strategies using SBEM

This report is based on a brief of a real-life commercial building (office on 33 Charterhouse Street) provided by the international consultancy and construction company MACE. MACE will be delivering four guest lectures on the module (Weeks 7, 8, 16 and 21). Coursework 2 brief will be issued during Week 8.

33 Charterhouse Street: Located adjacent to Farringdon Station, opposite the future Museum of London, the 200,000 sq. ft scheme will provide over 10 floors of technology enhanced office space. The project is expected to complete in September 2022.

Students will receive training on SBEM software and will be asked to model parts of the building energy and sustainability performance utilising sustainable design measures including low carbon materials, district energy network, renewable technologies, and biodiversity.

Both pieces of coursework relate directly to the learning outcomes that are developed throughout the module. This assessment will enhance students’ independent and autonomous learning, research skills, critical and analytical thinking skills and promote knowledge and understanding of the subject within the constraints of the industrial/domestic and commercial built environment.
