Explain why a patient might seek treatment from an OTC supplement instead of a more effective prescription drug. Identify opportunities the nurse has in educating about, administering, and monitoring the proper use of OTC supplements.
#2. Discuss at least three symptoms caused by physiologic changes and consequences of COPD. Discuss how pharmaceutical treatments are designed to alleviate those symptoms. When are antibiotics appropriate in the treatment of COPD? Which bacteria are most commonly attributed in a COPD bacterial infection? Which antibiotics are usually chosen and why? What are the risks and benefits of these treatments? What patient education is needed in terms of compliance and expectations of medications prescribed?
