Shakespeare

Locate one of Shakespeare’s sonnets that we DID NOT cover in course readings. Read and analyze this sonnet based on the reading, presentation information, and using your own literary analysis skills.

Identify any themes, prominent images, or literary devices and explain how they contribute to the sonnet’s overall meaning.

Use direct evidence of the sonnet, as necessary, but remember- there is no need to quote huge passages of text.

Also, discuss why this particular sonnet represents the era and what part of Shakespeare’s “cycle” it represents.

This is meant to be a literary analysis, and is not merely a response.

In other words, support your analysis with text.

You may need to refer back to the PowerPoint if you need a refresher on literary devices or information on Shakespeare’s “cycle” or “sonnet sequence.” There is no set word count for this assignment, but a strong analysis is typically a page and a half to two pages (double spaced).
