Ethics in nursing leadership

Write response to the below posts.

2.Review the five ways of knowing as described by Chinn and Kramer (2015).

a.Which two ways of knowing most impact your professional nursing practice.  Cite specific examples of the identified impact.
The first knowing that impacts my professional nursing practice is Ethics. Ethics in nursing “involves making moment-to-moment judgments about what ought to be done, what is good and right, and what is responsible. Ethical knowing guides and directs how nurses morally behave in their practices, what they select as being important, where their loyalties are placed, and what priorities demand advocacy.” (Chinn et al., 2015) With ethics at the base of nursing it allows you to decide who you need to see first, what needs to be done, why it needs to be done, and how you can advocate to make sure it is done.
The second knowing that impacts my professional nursing practice is personal knowing. Knowing who you are as a person is what defines you as a nurse. “Authenticity requires questioning, acknowledging, and understanding such things as personal biases, strengths and weaknesses of character, feelings, values, and attitudes.” (Chinn et al., 2015) By understanding who you are and understanding how you feel it allows you to take a step back and see where you have biased opinions, where you are strong, where you are weak thus allowing you to grow as a person personally and professionally.

b.Identify which way of knowing do you feel you need the most development.  Discuss two specific strategies you could use to improve this pattern of knowing.
I feel like the most knowing I need to develop would be Aesthetic. “Aesthetic knowing is what makes possible knowing what to do and how to be in the moment, instantly, without conscious deliberation” (Chinn et al., 2015) One specific strategy I could use to improve this is simply more time as a nurse. The longer I am in the profession the easier I will be able to understand what is needed at that moment without hesitation. Another specific strategy I could use to improve this would be to ask my mentors. Understand how they view a situation. Ask them how they would handle that situation if put into it. Shadow them as needed to improve my understanding and knowledge of situations.
