Extending the School Year
For many students summer vacation is an exciting time; but for some, summer vacation means that they will forget what they have learned during the school year. Another complication, according to Rachel Stark, is that “most modern American fathers and mothers work year round and scramble to find fun, safe, affordable programs during the endless parade of holidays that schools take but employers do not.” Due to these issues, school districts want to offer a mandatory program, which extends the school year 4 weeks.
