Personal Integration

The final writing assignment for the course is a summary integration paper.

Develop your own personal integration statement, guided by the course readings. You should to begin with the Johnson chapter on “Integration: the 5 views” and the handout titled, “Integration-worldviews”, adding in any ideas and concepts from our other readings and any scriptural support you wish to cite.

Make a clear statement of your personal approach to relating psychology to Christianity. You are strongly encouraged to illustrate your approach by using a contemporary issue in modern psychology.

Examples might include humanistic psychology’s claim that human nature is essentially good; evolutionary psychology and the “selfish gene”; clinical psychology and the pursuit of high self-esteem; and so on.

Summarize your findings (6 to 8 pages typed, double-spaced, APA style with references; no title page or abstract needed).

Devote most of your effort to a deeper understanding of the relevant issue for your integration position. Write with a clear sense of direction and look to synthesize and critically analyze the issue you choose to illustrate your approach. The best papers will have few (if any) errors in grammar with writing that is well-organized and well-supported with examples/illustrations.

You can also use the book ‘Coming to Peace with Psychology’ by Everett L. Worthington Jr.
