Personal and Cinematic Happiness

Happiness: Personal and Cinematic

The first three films of the course are central to the course because they deal with many aspects of happiness. They come from three different decades and they center around three men who are undergoing especially difficult times. Pursuit of Happyness (2006), Groundhog Day (1993), and “It’s a Wonderful Life” (1946) are classics of cinematic examples of misery to happiness films. For the first Unit you will watch all three.

For the first Discussion Board you only need to select ONE of the films.

Choose an event in your life in which you experienced your greatest happiness. If it is too personal and you don’t want to share it, choose a second event. What happened, why did it bring you so much happiness. Compare that experience to the experience of one of the characters of the three films of this unit.

What conclusions can you draw regarding the nature of happiness.

From the course documents for Unit 1, choose three theories that support your conclusions.
