Personal Statement
I was in my last year of undergrad. It was the fall with the cool crisp breeze as my classmates swirled around getting to their next class. I could not help but eavesdrop on some students talking about what they planned to do after graduation with their new diplomas. I heard so many different options: become a police officer, be in the FBI, and become a private investigator but, none of these options appealed to me. I loved learning about law and I loved studying it but I knew I did not want to be the one to enforce the law and investigate someone else’s wrong doings. That day I went home and I started researching my possible career options.

When researching I found going to Law School is what best suited me. This is when I decided I was going to put myself all in on studying and being able to achieve my goal of going to Law School and become an attorney. I want to be a lawyer because I want to be able to help people defend themselves through the legal court system. I also want to be able to help minorities who may be unable to afford adequate representation be able to defend themselves without having to choose whether or not to fight for their rights or how they are going to make ends meet that month. I feel that legal representation should be affordable for all people not just the wealthy.
My time in undergrad was unconventional to say the least. I completed my first two years of undergrad while I was still in high school which made me fifteen my first year and sixteen my second year. As I was so young I had a difficult time gaining the respect from most of my peers and some professors. I was always having to prove that I was capable of handling these classes and mature topics at such a young age. I would make sure I always went above and beyond for every course I was in to prove that I was capable of handling the course load and that I was able to discuss the mature topics that were a part of my degree such as autopsies, police brutality, prison reform and so much more. I would always try to bring new outlooks to the topics that we discussed to show I was mature enough to handle these advanced discussions.

Outside of my time in school I would volunteer at Florida Youth Sheriff Ranches to help facilitate summer and after school programs for underprivileged children so they would have somewhere to go either after school, during school breaks and during the summer. I also volunteered for the Naples Humane Society. I made snuffle mats to help their dogs fight boredom since the shelters were so full it was hard to be able to play with every dog. I love doing service work whether that is to benefit people or animals it is something I am really passionate about.

I believe St.Mary’s University School of Law will help me fulfill my dream to become an attorney. I believe that the online program not only gives me the flexibility I need to make a law degree possible but also the flexibility to learn at my own pace. I believe St. Mary’s University School of law is the perfect fit for me.
