POSITION PAPER ASSIGNMENT

To integrate faith and learning, that is, academic studies (building critical thinking skills) with the walk of faith (theological appropriation for faithful Christian living), students are required to submit a well-written position paper that is 5-8 pages in length. Make at least five (5) references to ideas found in the textbook by Thorsen (2020).

In the introduction to your paper, be sure to include a clear single-sentence thesis statement (italicized or underlined) about an issue selected from the assigned readings.

The position paper should also reflect on your context of theological interpretation in relation to topics raised in this material.

Second Position Paper (150 pts): Choose to write about an issue found in the second half of the course, dealing with issues such as the Holy Spirit, predestination and human freedom, salvation, spirituality, church, ministry, sacraments, and eschatology. In arguing for your position, contrast your position with at least one alternative position on the issue you discuss.

Although this is a theology paper, talk about the relevance of scripture for the subject matter.

You don’t need to do additional research for the paper (beyond the textbook), though you may do so if you want. Be sure to include correct APA notations for your references to sources, and include a reference list at the end of your position paper.
