Portfolio Paper
Each portfolio should follow broadly the same format and can be thought of as a curatorial exercise.
Select/build a collection of 20 buildings/spaces/sites and represent it with an image (plan, diagram or photo). For each, offer a formal identification, which at the least will include the name, location, date of construction, function and the aspect/view depicted in the selected image.
Include details of the patron, architect/mason, style. Also provide a discussion of the significance of the building for your theme and collection of examples.
For large, complex buildings, it is legitimate to use up to 3 distinct aspects/elements/features of the structure: where dealing with a large complex of buildings then using up to 5 distinct structures/features would be legitimate.
The first portfolio should be focused on an architectural style (part of your task will be to define what this means) or the architectural traditions of a city across time.
For ‘older’ styles this means across many centuries, potentially millennia. If focused on a more recent style then you will be well-advised to cover a wide geographical range. If focused on a city then you need to choose one that has an architectural history that is at least 700 years, preferably longer.
