For this assignment, you will apply what you have learned in this module to compose a memorandum to the Chief of Police in response to the following hypothetical scenario.

You are the Assistant Chief in one of the five largest California cities and have spearheaded your agency’s response to the landslide of CPRA requests from the ACLU, individual citizens, and other entities. As a result, you are going to serve as the keynote presenter at the upcoming International Association of Chiefs of Police conference.

Conference organizers have asked that in addition to your full-length presentation that you craft a 500-word memo that effectively serves as an executive summary of the critical points from your presentation. Your memo will be included in the packet of materials distributed to each attendee.

For this assignment please craft a 500-word memo that accomplishes three main goals:

Provides a brief legal overview of “transparency” legislation in California related to peace officer records

Provides a brief overview of similar legislation and dynamics in other states and jurisdictions

Describes best practices for the management of peace officer records requests

Your memo should be no more than 500 words, double-spaced, with 12-point standard fonts and one-inch margins, and it must be free of grammar and spelling errors.
