How was racism and sexism portrayed in Othello?

The book of “Othello” is a tragedy that was written by William Shakespeare in the year 1603.

The story is based on Un Capitano Moro by Cinthio. It involves four characters i.e. Othello who is a Moorish general in the army; Desdemona the beloved wife of Othello; Cassio, a loyal lieutenant; Iago who is Othello’s trusted and unfaithful fellow.

Various themes have been used to develop this play. They include racism, love, jealousy, repentance, betrayal and revenge (Shakespeare 181).
