Identify a specific issue (e.g. obesity) and provide three sentences about the way your selected issue affects children’s development and/or learning in the educational context you are focusing on.

This formative assessment requires you to select a key developmental domain and a specific interest issue within this domain in relation to one of the following educational contexts: Early Childhood, Primary, or Secondary.

You will work in pairs (Secondary students will work with others in the same tutorial, Primary/ Early Childhood
students will work with others in the same tutorial.

1. Identify a chosen domain (e.g. Physical/Motor) in relation to your focus educational context (e.g. Primary).

2. Identify a specific issue (e.g. obesity) and provide three sentences about the way your selected issue affects childrens development and/or learning in the educational context you are focusing on.

3. Use correct APA to list 5 current (e.g. no more than 5 years old) academic sources: textbooks, peer reviewed journal articles (see reference list in this course outline) and academic websites listed in Learning Materials (under heading Resources) on Blackboard.

Item 1: Developmental Domain Research Project 1000 words

You will work in pairs for this assessment.
This project requires you to select a key developmental domain and research a specific interest issue within this domain in relation to one of the following educational contexts: Early Childhood, Primary, or Secondary.

You will work in pairs (Secondary students will work with others in the same tutorial, Primary/ Early Childhood
students will work with others in the same tutorial.

You will present this information as a website (Google site).
In your research project, you are required to:

1. Provide an overview of key developmental information in your chosen domain (e.g. Physical/Motor) in relation to your focus educational context (e.g. Primary).

2. Identify and research a specific issue (e.g. obesity) and describe how this affects childrens development and/or learning in this educational context.

You must engage with a minimum of 5 current (e.g. no more than 5 years old) academic sources: textbooks, peer reviewed journal articles (see reference list in this course outline) and academic websites listed in Learning Materials (under heading Resources) on Blackboard.

Word limit: 1000 words (10% over or under)

Images: Tables, figures, pictures (no clip art) limit of 6. Images not counted in word count.

Item 2: Child Study Report 1000 words

The Child Study Report involves collating developmental information by observing a focus child (from video material on Bb) and then reporting on the development and learning of children in a specific age group.

Your focus will be on children in the six to eight years of age in a school setting

You will construct two anecdotal observations of your focus child and also write a child study report. This report is in essay form where you will write in flowing text and not use dot points or lists.

The selected age group will give your essay a focus and you must state which age group you selected at the start of your essay. You may find headings useful to help structure your report.

Headings could include this information:

Introduction to (state the selected age group)

Identification of aspects of development such as: physical development, cognitive development, language development, social/ emotional development.

In the child study report, you will provide explanations about different aspects of development in relation to your selected age group and also identify related theories (or theorists) of development.

These explanations must be supported by reference material noted correctly in your reference list, and include supporting evidence and links from the analyses of the two observations. The two observations will be
written in anecdotal form (including the analyses) and added as an appendix after the report. The format for recording and analysing the anecdotes will be explained during class.

The report will require a minimum of 4 references, and these must all be sourced from textbooks and academic journal articles (such as those listed in the course outline reference list) not websites about general information regarding child development. Any direct quotes must include the actual page number from the text or article that you used.

For assessment purposes you are required to submit these 3 items in the following order in one Word.doc:
Child Study Report (1000 words maximum)

Reference list APA style on a separate page (words in this list are not counted in essay length)
Appendix A: Two Anecdotal Observations including the analysis (these words are not counted in essay length).

Identify a specific issue (e.g. obesity) and provide three sentences about the way your selected issue affects children’s development and/or learning in the educational context you are focusing on.
