Teresa Turner Topic 4 DQ1
Learning Goal
I will be teaching a reading lesson to my students from the Read Well 1 curriculum, so I picked a learning goal that would reflect on their reading skills. My goal is that the students will be able to read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support their comprehension of the text. At the completion of Unit 20, students will demonstrate that they can read a passage with a minimum of 46 or more words correct per minute and no more than 2 errors on the first pass for a strong pass. The measurable objective that I chose demonstrates if the students are reading with fluency and accuracy. The students will participate in a 5-day lesson that will enhance their reading skills and their accuracy when reading a selected passage. I will measure this objective by having the students read an oral reading passage for a minute and collecting data on the words correct. The words from the reading passage are words that were delivered in the 5-day lesson and should be familiar to the students.
Differentiating Instruction

When I teach a reading lesson, I try to use different methods to engage the students. I have the students use white boards or paper to write down sounds and words when we are doing the decoding exercise. I write down the spelling words and decoding words on a white board for a visual for the students. When the students are reading a passage, I use my finger to help them follow along with the text. Each student has their own book, so they are able to follow along with the reading. After reading passage, I ask questions about the text or have the students look at a picture from the story to explain what is going on in the text. The reading passage that I use has a lot of pictures for the students to relate to the story. At the end of the reading lesson, the students get to complete a fun activity that pertains to the reading passage. This is something that they can do independently.

Kevin Hong Topic 4 DQ1

Hello Professor and Class,
The learning goal that I have is that my students will understand and know the vocabulary words that are in the unit and develop reading comprehension for literature. At the end of the unit, students will develop an understanding for vocabulary words and be proficient in reading comprehension for literature. To measure the objective, I will do a “Build Background Knowledge” activity and see where students are at regarding their level of understanding and once I know where they are at, I can teach the vocabulary lesson to them, to enhance their understanding of words. With reading comprehension, I will have them read a passage/short story in the textbook and then answer questions at the end to deepen their understanding of what they just read.

As for differentiate instructions, with how the class is set up, (Learning Support English) Mrs. Peck has three different groups of students for each level they are at. Blue, Green, and Red with red being at grade level work, so instructions are tailored to each color level. I will make sure that every student has all the proper materials and resources they need to complete their work and answer any questions they have regarding the lesson that is planned for the day. Students will work independently and have sufficient time to complete the assignment for the day. Once they have completed their work, I will check off their work and go over what they got wrong and talk about it with them to ensure understanding.
