Evaluate a children’s book and consider aspects of the books cultural appropriateness.

Children’s books are commonly used in interventions for children with communication disorders and can be an excellent way to support a variety of speech, language and literacy skills in children. Selecting books that are culturally and linguistically appropriate is best practice for intervention with children from CLD backgrounds.

For this Activity you will evaluate a children’s book and consider aspects of the books cultural appropriateness.

Instructions:
1.Review this handout from the Office of Head Start National Center on Cultural and Linguistic Responsiveness

2. Select a children’s book that you have available at home, through your library, or select one of the free digital books from one of these websites. The book you select should include text and pictures and should be appropriate for preschool or elementary-aged children.
