Post: There are many promising applications of CRISPR-cas technology in the research field, especially when it comes to the area of neuroscience. Genome editing of embryotic stem cells can allow researchers to develop primate modeled organoids that can be used to study the human nervous system and neurological diseases.

For example, TALENS have been used for gene editing in monkeys to model the X-linked Rett syndrome. While this does raise some questions about the bioethics of this practice, it does lead to a greater understanding to neurological diseases and puts us a step closer to therapeutic remedies for these illnesses.
