Learning centers can be particularly effective in ELL or bilingual/dual language learning environments if they include individualized, differentiated, and interactive instruction that encourages student participation. Many of the essential literacy skills such as phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension can be practiced around a central theme within learning centers.

For this benchmark, develop four small-group learning centers for ELLs or bilingual/dual language learners to review concepts from a previously taught lesson. “Creative Lesson Plan” from the topic materials to complete this assignment. Provide sufficient differentiation, individualized learning opportunities, and creative activities, within each learning center to reinforce or review concepts from your chosen lesson plan and to promote positive outcomes.
